The French cathedral consists of the French Friedrichstadtkirche, which was built for the Huguenots, the French refugees, between 1701 and 1705 and the coupling tower grown between 1780 and 1785. However, the French cathedral had never served a religious purpose and only received the name Dom due to the dome building. The French cathedral was badly damaged in the Second World War and could only be reconstructed in the 1980s. The cathedral has been home to the Hugenottemuseum for several years.
