After the demolition of a building on the Schlossplatz, from 1747 by Johannn Boumann d.Ä. A new cathedral at the lust garden, at the same time the Hohenzollern burial layers, was built. The Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm III. Commissioned in 1817 Karl Friedrich Schinkel to redesign the buildings that are no longer up to date. First, the interiors are changed, and until 1822 the Frederizian cathedral will be overformed in a classicist manner while maintaining the baroque substance. Since Schinkel has to stick to the guidelines of the king, a court church arises instead of a cathedral. The cross -stored, simple building is only emphasized in the central axis by an ionic column vorow with gable and three dome divided with Corinthian pilasters. In March 1892, the demolition of the old Hofkirche began to make room for the cathedral carried out according to the designs of Julius Raschdorff 1892-1905.
