Instead of an old wooden folding bridge over the Spree Canal, the Schlossbrücke designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel was built in 1822-23 as a representative connection between Lustgarten and the street Unter den Linden. The eight marble groups according to Schinkel's design are carried out by various artists and set up between 1853-57. With the thematic representation of the "life of a warrior, from boys to death", they refer to the wars of liberation as a prerequisite for the development of the Prussian state after 1815. The bridge is also called "doll bridge" because of the figures by the Berlin Volksmund. Monumental structure of the Zeughaus, from the conversion to a "fame hall of the Brandenburg-Prussian army" the 1880 glass iron dome, which was finished by Friedrich Hitzig, testifies.
