Exterior view of two sides of the Merced Theatre surrounded by a construction fence. On the left is the Pico House. Ezra F. Kysor designed the Italianate theater, built in 1870 by William Abbott and named for his wife. It opened on January 30, 1871 and is the oldest surviving theater in Los Angeles.
