Syntagma Square (Constitution Square) At the beginning of the 19th century there was a lawn on this place, part of the palace complex of the first king of Greece, Otto (now the Greek parliament is located in the palace building). Otton's wife Amalia Oldenburg took care of both the palace and the lawn. Finally, the queen decided to ban ordinary Athenians from visiting this territory. In her care, the queen went so far that she even ordered to take several reservoirs of citywide water for watering the trees of the park that she could not but disturb the bourgeoisie. In 1862, King Otton was overthrown and replaced by the Danish prince from the Glucksburg dynasty, who took the name George I. After 10 months of restoration work, they updated white marble, installed benches, lampposts, updated the fountain - the current Syntagma was again opened for visitors.
