The marquee at the Lido Theatre, 3459 Via Lido, in Newport Beach advertises "Charles Bronson is Ray" in the 1976 film, St. Ives, then showing. Also advertised is "Burroughs at the earths core" as a banner hanging below the marquee reads "Matinee today." The Art Deco Lido opened in 1938. The first film it played was Bette Davis's Jezebel since she lived nearby in Corona Del Mar and told the owner "they had better open with my picture." Bette Davis was also responsible for the sitting parlor in the ladies room. The theater was renovated, including the tile work done in the 1930's that was restored by the Italian family who were the original craftsmen.
