La Statue d'Étienne Dolet, Place Maubert

The bronze statue depicting the Humanist Etienne Shake (1509-1546), standing with the knitted hands with a printing stack at the feet, was established in 1889. In the burrow on the pedestal of the allegory of the city of Paris, "raising a free thought", in a low relief - the scene of the arrest and torture of Etienne. Statues belong to the sculptor Ernest Hilbert and the architect of the field Blondela. In 1942, he is integraced with the mode of Vichy. After the war there were attempts to restore the monument, but all unsuccessful. In 1979, the foundation of the monument was demolished.
