18 to 4 West 54th Street, south side, east from but not including Sixth, to but not including Fifth Aves., showing the 9-story (No. 10) and contiguous to it eastward, the 4-story (No. 4),Rockefeller residences. These two houses are to be demolished and the land will be used by the Museum of Modern Art as a garden for the display of sculpture. It was presented to the Museum by Mr. and Mrs, John D. Rockefeller Jr. as a gift, shortly after the demise of the elder Rockefeller. No. 4, the 4-story residence which stands within an enclosed garden, was the residence of John D. Rockefeller Sr. It was built in 1865 and was bought by Mr. Rockefeller in 1895. The 9-story house, No. 10, is the residence of John D. Rockefeller Jr. and is one of the largest private homes in the city. It was built in 1912 at a cost of 200, 000 dollars. December 28, 1936.
