Eleventh Ave. (foreground), from West 34th (right), to 36th (left) Streets, showing work in progress for the New York Central Railroad's track removal project as a part of the West Side Improvement, viewed in a southeastward direction from the latter point and westward of the Avenue. At the left foreground is a part of the old Eleventh Ave. grade, over which the railroad operated for Eighty-eight years. Note that the present Avenue is elevated about ten feet and about one-third of this extension being shown in this view the new yard tracks passing underneath same and connecting the southern two and one-half mile stretch with the rock cut bed. Undergoing remodeling is the old R.H. Macy warehouse at the N.E. corner of the Avenue and West 35th Street.
