Looking southeast over the Whittier Downs Shopping Center, located at Washington and Norwalk boulevards in Santa Fe Springs. Some of the retailers include: J. C. Penney, Thrifty Drug Co., and F.W. Woolworth Co. On the right is another shopping center, which includes a King Cole Market, designed by A. Quincy Jones. The entire background is full of homes. Photograph dated February 16, 1956. Designed by architectural firm Pereira & Luckman with elements to maximize visual merchandising, this $3,000,000 shopping center opened in 1955. After just three decades of use, Whittier Downs Shopping Center was razed due to declining popularity.
