In 1925, it was renamed Peter the Liberator Square, after the Serbian and first Yugoslav king Peter Karađorđević. During the German occupation in the years 1942–1945, the square was called U Slepé brány (German Am Blinden Tor) briefly returned to its pre-war name in 1948-1952 (after the Great October Revolution) after the Russian (Soviet) physiologist Ivan Petrovich Pavlov maintained even after the Velvet Revolution."
