View of the north side of I. P. Pavlov Square (Peter Osvoboditele, Komenského) with houses (right) No. 1785, 1786, 1787 in Nové Město." The square was originally called Komenského in 1897–1925. In 1925, it was renamed to Peter Osvoboditele Square , after the Serbian and first Yugoslav king Petr Karađorđević. During the German occupation in 1942-1945, the square was called U Slepé brány (German Am Blinden Tor), and after the war it was briefly called the October Revolution Square (after the Great October Revolution of 1917). It was then named after the Russian (Soviet) physiologist Ivan Petrovich Pavlov and retained this name even after the Velvet Revolution."
