which houses the expositions of the Sculptural Assembly, the Museum of Byzantine Art and the Coin Office. The museum was opened on October 17, 2006 after a six-year restoration. The idea of creating an art museum in Berlin arose in 1871 at the Kaiser court surrounded by the Crown Prince and later German Emperor Frederick III. Specific proposals were presented by Wilhelm von Bode. The court architect Ernst von Ine erected a museum building from 1897 to 1904 for the collection of sculptures and paintings collected by Bode, which began with the Kunstkamera Electors of Brandenburg. The museum opened on October 18, 1904, on the birthday of Frederick III, who died in 1888.
