The Charles Treadwell brick house was built by the Belfast carriage maker in 1832. In 1930, when it was announced the Texaco Oil Company would be tearing down the house in order to build a filling station, aMrs. Louise Brewster stepped in to save the house. She moved the house 1 mile south of its original location on High Street to Northport Avenue in Belfast. Once in its new location, Mrs. Brewster, artist and interior designer by trade, re-built and renovated the house. She and her husband used it as their summer home until the 1970s. Shown here is the Treadwell house in its location at High and Miller Streets (1930) and the building currently on the site being used as a law office. (2022)
