The October 12, 1865 fire in Belfast, Maine was witnessed by Belfast artist William M. Hall and sketched by him. He sent his drawing to Harpers Weekly Magazine, where their engravers interpreted his original. The image and a short article appeared in a November issue. The fire destroyed 20 acres of Belfast waterfront, including 125 buildings.
