Bayburt Merkez
The monastery is located in the village of Varzakhan in the province of Upper Armenia in the northern part of historical Armenia. Varzakhan was a large Armenian settlement of 4 km. north-west of the city of Baberd (now Bayburt). Most of its population was exterminated during an uprising against the ports of the XVIII century. In the same period the monastery was damaged. Archaeologist Austin Henry Laiga described this place in 1849, traveling from Trapezund to Mosul:"... the only interesting place we visited during our trip was a small Armenian village, the remains of larger, with the ruins of three early Christian churches or baptistery. " You can prone the name of the abode, and both Varavan, and Varzakhansky.
