Fountain Saint-Michel (Fontaine Saint-Michel) is a monumental fountain, which is on the Saint-Michel (place Saint-Michel). It was built in 1858-1860 years during the Second French Empire by the architect Gabriel Davyu. Fountain Saint-Michel was part of a larger project for the reconstruction of Paris by Haussmann. In 1855, Baron Haussmann has completed construction of a new boulevard, which is now called the Boulevard Saint-Michel (boulevard Saint-Michel). Upon completion of construction Osman asked Gabriel Davyu design fountain harmonically adjacent to the Place Saint-Mishel.Originalny Davyu project involved the construction of a fountain in the center of the square. The city authorities have rejected the idea, and asked him to build a fountain that would shut the end wall of the building at the intersection of Boulevard Saint-Michel and Saint-Andre-de-Arts. This forced Davyu adapt your project to the proportions of the building.
