Up until 1909, this area of land occupied by auxiliary buildings of ancient Paris hospital Hotel-Dieu. Prior to that, there were the monastic buildings, student dormitories and the refectory of the monastery of Cluny Priory of St. Julian's congregation. Earlier this place was a cemetery at the Basilica of the VI century, the original church of Saint-Julien-le-Pauvre. During the XIX century, near the walls of Saint-Julien-le-Pauvre excavated tombs and gravestones Merovingian era - some of them are now in the museum of "Carnival."
