Shota Rustaveli monument - another "calling card" of Tbilisi. The sculpture, which was built in the Georgian capital in 1942 (author K. Merabishvili), pays homage to the famous Georgian poet of XII-XIII centuries. The only surviving work of Georgian poet - "The Knight in the Panther's Skin". Some Georgians know the poem by heart, and the sayings of it are present in the everyday speech of the Georgian people. It is interesting that in Tbilisi there is another sculpture on the theme of "The Knight in the Panther's Skin" about the Georgian Military Road. On a high pedestal sculptor has depicted the fight Elgudja Amashukeli knight and a tiger. There is also an excerpt from the national "Legend of the Knight Prince and the Tiger", which has served as the primary source for the poem "The Knight in the Panther's Skin".
