Looking east across Alvarado Street at storefronts and the marquee of the Westlake Theatre, located at 636 S. Alvarado Street. Originally designed by Richard M. Bates, Jr. and opened in 1926, the Spanish Baroque-style theater, which is a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument, was remodeled by S. Charles Lee in 1935.
