Votivkirche (German: Votivkirche - “votive church” is also the Vow Church) is a temple of the Roman Catholic Church in Vienna. Located in the Alsergrund district near Vienna University. Also, the '' Vow Church '' is a church. It was built in the Neo-Gothic style in gratitude for the salvation of the young emperor [Franz Joseph] during the assassination attempt on February 18, 1853. The height of the church is 99 meters, and thus it takes second place among the Vienna churches in height. 300 thousand citizens of the Austro-Hungarian Empire responded to the call to raise funds for the construction of the church, announced by the brother of the emperor Ferdinand Maximilian. The competition of 75 projects was won by the project of the 26-year-old architect Heinrich von Ferstel. The construction of the temple lasted 23 years. The church was consecrated on April 24, 1879 on the silver wedding day of the emperor.
