Yerevan
The Shagarskaya Mosque, it is also Shaharskaya or Zalkhana. It was located in the Old Town, which was located between the quarters of Gala (Fortress) and Tepebashi. The Shahara mosque, in size, was smaller than the Blue Mosque, but in beauty it was not inferior to it. Built in 1687 by Zal Khan, after the old mosque collapsed during the 1679 earthquake. Zalkhan Mosque had its own courtyard and a cool garden. In 1928, during the reconstruction of Yerevan, and at the suggestion of the architect V.A. Shchuseva the large hall of the Shahara mosque was demolished, and the Yerevan Hotel was built in its place. The rest of the building was used as the Exhibition Hall of the House of Artists, for which, after World War II, a new hall was equipped in place of the old one.
