The wooden building dominating the center was photographed for the Republican Journal in the late 1950s. Using a 1901 Sanborn-Perris insurance map, we were able to clarify the exact location of this building. It was part of the Swan & Sibley company's wharf and warehouse complex. The business included a wharf, sail loft, ship chandlery, warehouse for groceries and a gristmill. All were located at the foot of Main Street. In 1971, the building was torn down. At that time Dick Magno owned it and had Dick's Modernizing Company and building supplies. Although Swan & Sibley are long-gone, their wharf building survives and is currently Nautilus Seafood & Grill. The public restrooms now occupy the site where the large wooden structure once stood.
