In this photograph we can see the “Juanita Rico” Company, which was created in Yecla in 1936, made up mostly of communists and socialists. This Company fought in the Spanish Civil War as part of the Fifth Regiment of Popular Militias, under the command of Commander Francisco Varela, they fought in the Sierra de Madrid. The Company receives its name from a socialist militant murdered in an attack perpetrated by the extreme right on June 10, 1934. On August 11, this Company joined the Victory Brigade, made up of 400 veterans of the first Steel Companies. and militiamen from Vallecas. He fought in Guadarrama and Peguerinos, until September 15 when he moved to Talavera. Here, from the 20th, he participated in the reorganization of the front along with the Third Assault Group of Burillo and the Thaelmann, Pasionaria and Largo Caballero battalions. It later became the Second Battalion of the 1st Mixed Brigade of Líster.
