Plumes of white smoke pour out from Turnbull Canyon in the hills north of Whittier, and high into the skies. Several homes can be seen nestled along the mountain, and appear to be out of danger, as the white smoke indicates the fire has possibly been extinguished. Photograph dated August 31, 1955.
