Vatican courtyard of Pinia. Pedestal of the column of Antoninus Pius - the central part. Pedestal of an antique column of the 2nd century imp. Antonina Pia stands here in the center of the courtyard. The height of the pedestal was 2.47 m, width 3.38 m. The scene of the apotheosis of the emperor and his wife is visible: the genius lifts them into the heavens, accompanied by eagles. Antoninus Pius holds a scepter with an eagle in his hands. On the right, the goddess Roma looks at those ascending, raising her right hand. (on the left and right of the pedestal are depicted the imperial military, and the rear part of the pedestal contains the inscription in Latin: DIVO ∙ ANTONINO ∙ AVG ∙ PIOANTONINVS ∙ AVGVSTVS ∙ ETVERVS ∙ AVGVSTVS ∙ FILII). The pedestal was excavated in 1703 near the square. Monte Citorio, the remains of the column were completely lost. Under Pius VI, he ended up in the Vatican garden.
