Vatican courtyard of Pinia - antique pedestal, bronze cone. In the center of the courtyard there is an antique pedestal from a lost Roman column of the imp. Antonia Pia. Emperor Pius himself and his wife are visible on it: the genius lifts them into the heavens, accompanied by eagles. Since 1787, the pedestal has been in the Vatican, approximately in 1885 it was moved from this point behind the Cone into a niche, and in its place in the center they placed a column with St. Peter. Later (after 1907) the pedestal was taken out of Pigna’s courtyard, now it stands nearby - at the entrance to the museums near the pavilion delle Carrozze.
